-- Bolourchi: Grammies, Oscars are political events, US independent competitions hold more credibility
Pejman Bolourchi, an Iranian composer and recipient of much-admired accolades for independent musicians in the US, regards the Grammy Awards and the Academy Awards as political competitions.
He believes that awards given in competitions for independent artists carry higher artistic credibility and ranking among arts specialists.
Recently, Bolourchi received the first prize at the World’s Best Musicians Competition for his composition ‘Contemplation.’ This competition, the largest classical music festival globally, covers various categories such as instrumental, woodwind, brass, vocal, and ensemble performances. Balourchi achieved first prize of the same event for two separate compositions (‘Nature’s Dance’ and ‘Contemplation’) in one year.
--- Iran’s Nat’l Orchestra performs ‘Lady of Water and Mirror’
In a special ceremony held at Vahdat Hall on December 27, Iran’s National Orchestra performed a symphonic poem titled ‘Lady of Water and Mirror,’ conducted by Hamayoun Rahimian and featuring the vocals of Amirhossein Samiei.
The orchestral performance coincided with the death anniversary of the passing of Hazrat Umm ul-Baneen (PBUH). The symphony, was supposed to be staged on the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Fatima (PBUH) on December 17 under the name of ‘Lady of Water’ whose compositions were made by Safi Safavi.
-- Tehran advises neighbors to avoid comments on Iran’s islands
Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi advised neighboring countries not to damage their relations with a “great country” such as Iran by making unfounded claims regarding Iran’s three islands in the Persian Gulf.
Vahidi pointed to a recent statement issued by Russia and several Arab countries on Iran’s three Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb, and the Lesser Tunb, saying that the baseless statements issued about the Iranian islands are claims that had been earlier made by others.
-- Over 28m Iranians screened for hypertension, diabetes: National Health Survey
Since the implementation of Iran’s National Health Survey on November 11, 2023, the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education has announced that over 334,000 people have been identified as possibly having diabetes. The survey, which will run from November 11, 2023, to January 5, 2024, aims to screen individuals over the age of 18 for blood pressure and diabetes.
The Ministry plans to create health records for all participants as part of this nationwide initiative.

-- M alaysian Museum ‘Journey’ Lingers in Iran
THE Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) has become something of a national institution over the years. It regularly tops Tripadvisor and other lists for visitors. To mark its 25th anniversary, two exhibitions have been launched at the same time — a first for this highly productive institution.
One is titled “Alif, Lam, Ra” and provides a comprehensive survey of calligraphy by contemporary Muslim artists. It is a comparatively recent field for the IAMM, especially when compared with the 1,400 years covered in its collection of traditional Islamic art. Representing this path is “A Journey through Islamic Art”.
-- Filming of ‘Kianoush Garden’ Completes
The filming of the cinematic project ‘Kianoush’s Garden’ has wrapped up. The PR department of the project added that the shooting schedule stretched over several months at various locations in the Iranian capital city of Tehran, iFilm reported.
Reza Keshavarz Haddad makes his feature film directorial debut with “Kianoush’s Garden,” having previously directed several short films that were featured in various festivals.
-- Iran, Tajikistan Ink 2 Trade Cooperation Documents
Iran’s Minister of Energy Ali Akbar Mehrabian and Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma as the co-chairs of the commission have signed two cooperation documents in the trade, economic, technical and industrial fields aimed at deepening bilateral relations.
The ceremony of the 16th edition of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Economic, Trade, Technical and Industrial Commission was held in Dushanbe. In addition to signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), organizing a training course in the field of water was also signed between the two sides.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino extended his deepest sympathies to the Iran Football Federation over death of woman footballer Melika Mohammadi. Mohammadi, 23, died in a tragic road accident in Bam, Kerman province Saturday night.
“Extremely sad news. Our thoughts are with Melika Mohammadi’s family, friends and everyone at the Islamic Republic of Iran Football Federation at this difficult time,” Infantino posted on his Instagram account.

The fifth individual exhibition of the young autistic savant Rastin Molaeizadeh titled “IC 1101” is underway at Sa'dabad Historical Cultural Complex in Tehran. the exhibit includes paintings by the 11-year-old artist, showing the process of launching spaceships and details of the launchers, IRNA reported.
Autistic savants are people who suffer from a developmental disability yet demonstrate some cognitive ability, exceeding what most people can do. These abilities may involve, art, music, arithmetic, spatial skills, or calendar abilities.
